A Pattern System Designed to Work Across Diverse Sites & Contexts
A flexible pattern language developed to reflect the human connection to historic places.
CLIENT: ENGLISH HERITAGE
This project centred on the creation of a pattern system that could work across a broad range of sites, periods and uses without becoming literal or location-specific. The brief required a system that felt human, timeless and adaptable.
I established the concept and structure for the system, taking an abstract, non-literal approach designed to work across a wide range of sites. Specialist pattern designers were commissioned within this framework, with creative direction overseen by me.
The resulting system added depth and texture to the wider brand, providing a flexible layer that could be used across retail, publishing and environmental applications without overwhelming the core identity.
“We have covered an incredible amount of ground in a relatively short time and you have played a massive part in helping us to achieve that.”
